Named after Dr. Samuel M Jordan (1871-1952), has remained Khiaban-e Jordan in popular speech, despite its official post revolutionary name change to 'Khiaban-e Africa.'

Dr. Jordan served in Iran from 1898 to 1941 as a Presbyterian missionary, he was the founder and president of the American College of Tehran, renamed Alborz College of Tehran in the 1930s.
